SSSVIP East Godavari

The SSSVIP Programme in East Godavari District was envisaged to be undertaken in a phased manner, in the 212 villages covered by the Sri Sathya Sai Drinking Water Project (SSSDWP). 25 tribal villages in East Godavari District were selected to be covered under Phase-I. SSSVIP East Godavari was launched on 20 January 2008.

Significance Of East Godvari Agency:

The Agency Area of the East Godavari District, which had received everlasting grace of Bhagwan in the form of Sri Sathya Sai Drinking water Project, is the current Seat of the SSSVIP Activities compassion towards the inhabitants of this region and his association with them dates back to several aeons, The forest region of the East Godavari Agency Area was an integral part of the ‘Dandakaranya’ during the treat yuga, when Swami had explored this place as Loard Sri Rama. During his search for Goddess Sita, the tribals of this region might have offered wear to quench the thirst of Sri Rama and provided a place to rest, before resuming his journey. In return to that act of love shown by the tribals Sri Rama, Bhagavan in his parent incarnation has provided them with clean and hygienic drinking water through the Si Sathya Sai Drinking Water Project and is ensuring their holistic well being through the Sri Sathya Sai Village Integrated Programme.

May be due to his Deep attachment with this area, Swami had chosen to visit East Godavari for the maximum number of times than any other place. Between 1957 and 1969, Swami had visited East Godavari every year and later in 1974 for the All India Conference and again in 1981 and 1983.During these visits, Swami had toured even the remotest of villages in East Godavari.

The Agency Area of the East Godavari District enjoys a special Place in the annals of India’s struggle for independence. This area has given birth to several brave and courageous fighters, most distinguished of them all being Alluri sitaramaraju, who had spearheaded the famous ‘rampa Rebellion ‘ against the brutal aggression of the British over the gullible tribes.
